Upgrading from ACT! 8 to ACT 9 in RTG’s Hosted environment

Upgrading from ACT! 8 to ACT 9 in RTG’s Hosted environment

Affected ACT! Versions: 8.0 & greater
When clients want to upgrade to the next major release of ACT! and have no need to recut and distribute remote databases, RTG can manually upgrade your database so you do not have to recut remotes.

RTG's Suggested Action:

Follow these steps in order to make the process go smoothly.

1.      Contact RTG at support@rtgroup.com to let them know you will be upgrading and make sure they schedule this upgrade.

2.      Get all ACT! remote databases to sync a few times till syncs complete in less than 1 min. This is incase of an incident.

3.      When you are ready to upgrade, contact RTG and let them know its ok to upgrade the ACT! master database.

4.      RTG will give you these two pieces of information.

a.      The new master server name

b.      The new sync server (internet sync).

You will need to change both of these in each remote after you upgrade them to ACT! 9

5.      On Each Remote :

a.      Uninstall previous ACT! version (7 -8)

b.      Uninstall SQL server 2000, if not uninstalled correctly when ACT! is uninstalled

c.      Install ACT! 9 and SQL 2005 Express.

d.      By Default: ACT! should open the last open database and will ask you to upgrade the schema. You have to do this. It will also ask if you want to create a backup prior to upgrading, this is optional.

e.      Once the schema is upgraded and you can open the ACT! database in the new version of ACT!, Go to the Menus across the top select Tools > Synchronization Panel

f.        Once the Synchronization Panel loads locate “Manage Main Database Location” Click this link and change the info to the Master Server Name that RTG provided. Click Finish.

g.      Back in the Synchronization Panel Locate the link “Manage Connection Information” Click this link and change the info to the new Sync server information that RTG provided.

h.      If RTG has finished the Master database upgrade & sync configuration, you should be able to sync.
